Why Tinctures?

Picture
First of all, a tincture is a concentrated form of an herb or plant material. A tincture is made when an herb’s properties are extracted by a menstrum, in this case vodka*.  During a two week or longer period the alcohol soluble and water soluble properties are extracted from the herb, then the herb is discarded leaving a liquid tincture.

Tinctures are easily and speedily assimilated into the body.

Tinctures are convenient and fast to take.

Tinctures can be diluted with water or taken with juice to disguise the taste of strong tasting herbs.

*Alcohol Sensitivities

Tinctures do contain alcohol, in this case vodka. You can reduce the alcohol content in the tincture by putting your tincture in boiling water. Put the required amount of tincture in a half or quarter cup of boiling water. I have never tried this, but read it out of a very resourceful book, “The Way of Herbs” by Michael Tierra. I suggest googling or reading more about the procedure if you are interested in doing it.

If you want an alcohol free product, tinctures can be made with vinegar or vegetable glycerin. Upon request alcohol free tinctures can be made. Contact us at herbalutionremedies@gmail.com to make your special request. Please keep in mind that special requests will take two to four weeks to be made.
